For each year the area available for new planting authorisations corresponds to 1% the total wine-growing areas of the country according to the census referring to the areas planted on 31 July of the previous year.
Where the eligible permit applications submitted within the year relate to a total area less than the area available for the year, all relevant permits shall be approved.
Where the total area of eligible applications exceeds the area available for allocation, the allocation shall be made at the level of eight (8) regions in accordance with the priority criteria selected for each of them. The acres available at regional level (1 to 8) are set at the rate of 1% the planted area of each region, as announced in the annual census of the previous year.
For the allocation of new planting authorisations, the following eight (8) regions are defined:
1. EASTERN MACEDONIA – THRACE
2. CENTRAL MACEDONIA
3. WESTERN MACEDONIA
4. THESSALY
5. ATTICA, CENTRAL GREECE
6. WESTERN GREECE
7. PELOPONNESE
8. IONIAN ISLAND, NORTH AEGEAN, SOUTH AEGEAN, CRETE, AND Epirus
In this case, priority criteria as selected for each region in accordance with the tables below shall be applied in order to grant new planting authorisations.
Each parcel receives a score for each criterion based on the weighting factor W and the conformity factor Pt. The classification of eligible individual applications is done electronically by applying the general formula:
Pt = W1 * Pt1 + W2 * Pt2 + W3 * Pt3 + W4 * Pt4 + W5* Pt5
Where: Pt = total points assigned to a specific application
W1, W2, W3, W4, W5 = Criteria Gravity Factor
Pt1, Pt2, Pt3, Pt4, Pt5 = compliance factor with the criteria
Where the application contains more than one parcel, the scoring shall be calculated for each parcel separately.
